“Project Nim,” a new documentary by James Marsh, is a probing, unsettling study of primate behavior, focusing on the complex dynamics of power, sex and group bonding in a species whose startling capacity for selfishness and aggression is offset by occasional displays of intelligence and compassion.
His name — a human imposition, like everything else in this creature’s remarkable, heartbreaking life — is Nim Chimpsky. In the 1970s he enjoyed (or endured) a season of fame as a research subject. Shortly after his birth at an primate behavior, Nim was taken from his mother’s side and delivered to New York, where he became part of an experiment, led by a Columbia professor, Herbert Terrace, to determine whether an ape could be taught human language.
It is a bit curious that Mr. Marsh’s film has nothing to say about the roots of Nim’s name, a jab at the influential linguist Noam Chomsky, whose theories about the innateness and uniqueness of language to humans were the implicit target of Dr. Terrace’s work. His project was an effort to discern if a chimpanzee could learn sign language and if that learning could proceed beyond the mimicry of specific gestures into the creation of grammatical sentences. If Nim could be raised more or less as a human child, and could master human communication, that would challenge the Chomskyan idea of language as a special, hard-wired trait fundamentally separating us from other animals. (Koko the gorilla, another celebrated signing ape born around the same time as Nim, also tested this hypothesis.)
“Project Nim” glances briefly at the scientific controversy that shaped Nim’s fate, but Mr. Marsh is less interested in comparatively dry matters of linguistics or neurobiology than in a humid, messy domain of identity and emotion that has, in the past, been the terrain of psychoanalysis. And of literature: Nim, thrown from one home to another, vulnerable to cruelty and neglect and dependent on the kindness of strangers, resembles the titular hero of a Dickens novel, an orphan buffeted by circumstances whose biography is also a fable of individual virtue and social injustice.
A helpless innocent compared with his protectors and tormentors, Nim bounces like a long-armed David Copperfield from one unnatural home to another — a Manhattan brownstone, an estate in the Bronx, a medical testing center upstate — living through periods of pastoral bliss and gothic horror. His tale is Dickensian, but also Kafkaesque, since he is at the mercy of powerful forces beyond his ken or control.
Red Peter, the learned ape in Kafka’s devastating “Report to an Academy,” dreams, above all else, of a “way out,” and to watch footage of the young Nim at play and in confinement is to infer that he must have known a similar longing. Unlike the Kafka character, however, this educated primate never acquired enough words to tell us his story, and so “Project Nim” relies on human interlocutors, some of whom cared about Nim a great deal, almost all of whom wind up telling us more about themselves.
They are a remarkable collection, often at odds and sometimes in bed with one another, with Nim as their pawn, rival or surrogate child as well as the blank slate on which they inscribe their fantasies and intellectual conceits. Dr. Terrace, speaking with precision and detachment in present-day interviews, is either resigned to being the film’s designated villain or oblivious to being set up for that role. His former colleagues, some of them also former lovers, don’t have much good to say, and the ’70s footage, showing an academic dandy with a comb-over, a BMW and a Burt Reynolds mustache, is hardly flattering.
For the first few years of Nim’s life, Dr. Terrace was the master of his fate, though not always a significant presence in the chimp’s day-to-day routine. After leaving Oklahoma, Nim was installed in the home of Stephanie LaFarge, where he became part of a household that included seven children, at least one dog and Ms. LaFarge’s husband, a poet and “rich hippie” who appears to have been Nim’s romantic rival.
Ms. LaFarge, an open and genial interview subject, drops a few casual bombshells testifying to what the psychobabble of our own time might call boundary issues. “It was the ’70s,” her now grown-up daughter Jenny Lee says, but even then, and even on the Upper West Side, it might have been a bit unusual for a woman to breastfeed a baby chimpanzee.
After a while, Nim was transferred to an estate in Riverdale, cared for and tutored by young people — most of them women — who come before Mr. Marsh’s camera in middle age to recall the pleasures and dangers of working with their spirited simian charge. It is hard not to be charmed by the affection that passes between these humans and the chimp, or to appreciate what seems to be a reciprocated effort at communication. But at the same time it is difficult to avoid a certain queasiness at the sight of a wild creature forcibly and irrevocably alienated from his nature — dressed in clothes, tethered and caged, smoking a joint out in the woods with his pals. You laugh, sometimes, to force the lump out of your throat.
There is no doubt that Nim was exploited, and also no doubt that he was loved. Mr. Marsh, by allowing those closest to Nim plenty of room to explain themselves, examines the moral complexity of this story without didacticism. He allows the viewer, alternately appalled, touched and fascinated, to be snagged on some of its ethical thorns. He also engages in a bit of manipulation, using sleight-of-hand re-enactments and Dickon Hinchliffe’s nerve-rackingly melodramatic score to sensationalize a drama that hardly requires it.
Mr. Marsh, whose last documentary was the lovely, Oscar-winning “Man on Wire,” is a patient listener and an able storyteller, but the subject of “Project Nim” is so rich and strange that it might have benefited from the hand of a wilder, bolder filmmaker. An obsessive like Errol Morris or Werner Herzog might have pushed beyond pathos and curiosity, deeper into the literal no man’s land that lies between us and our estranged animal relations. But it is also possible that our language and our science do not equip us to understand the truth about Nim — or the truth about us that he may have discovered through years of rigorous, involuntary research.
“Project Nim” is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Strong language, drug use, sexual references and depictions of animal suffering.

25 years after the mysterious death of princess Diana of Wales.
Twenty five years ago Princess Diana’s car crashed inside the Pont de L’Alma tunnel in Paris France. Her lover, Dodi Fayad, died upon impact along with the driver. And even though Diana survived, it took about 40 minutes to get her from the car to the ambulance. The Official story was that they were trying to free her from the car, but several witnesses say that Diana was conscious and unobstructed. Photographs show that the backseat of the car was undamaged. And witnesses were pleading with the police to open the door and help her. Once in the ambulance, it took about 40 minutes for them to choose a Hospital. And when they finally set off, the ambulance drove at a snails pace and made several stops. Taking about 40 minutes to drive less than 4 miles.
Doctors were turned away. Witnesses were strip searched. Cameras were confiscated. No evidence was gathered. No blood samples were taken. And by 3am the entire scene was sprayed down with high pressure water hoses. Mercedes wanted to study the wreckage to see why it failed so badly. But they were denied. Diana‘s body was taken by the Royal family. Who had her reproductive organs removed before burying her remains. All 17 cameras along the route of the crash were mysteriously turned off. And all radio police frequencies went down. Witnesses were assaulted and threatened. And there was no investigation. Until the inquest ten years later. Which is when most people learned that Diana had penned a note in 1996 saying that someone was going to kill her in a car accident. This note was concealed for 6 years.

After a long summer of feasting, their bodies stately and plump, the emperor penguins of Antarctica begin to feel, toward autumn, a need to march inland to the breeding grounds "where each and every one of them was born." They are all of a mind about this, and walk in single file, thousands of them, in a column miles long. They all know where they are going, even those making the march for the first time, and when they get there, these countless creatures, who all look more or less the same to us, begin to look more or less desirable to one another. Carefully, they choose their mates.
This is not a casual commitment. After the female delivers one large egg, the male gathers it into a fold of his abdomen, plants his feet to protect the egg from the ice below, and then stands there for two months with no food or water, in howling gales, at temperatures far below zero, in total darkness, huddled together with the other fathers for warmth. The females meanwhile, march all the way back to the sea, now even more distant, to forage for food, which they will bring when the spring comes, if they know it must. When the females return to the mass of countless males, they find their mate without error and recognize the cries of chicks they have never seen.
"March of the Penguins" is simply, and astonishingly, the story of this annual cycle. It was filmed under unimaginable conditions by the French director Luc Jacquet and his team, including the cinematographers Laurent Chalet and Jerome Maison. There is not much to choose from in setting up their shots: On the coldest, driest and (in winter) darkest continent on Earth, there is snow, and there is ice, and there are penguins. There is also an ethereal beauty.
Although the compulsion to reproduce is central to all forms of life, the penguins could be forgiven if they'd said the hell with it and evolved in the direction of being able to swim to Patagonia. The film's narrator, Morgan Freeman, tells us that Antarctica was once a warm land with rich forests that teemed with creatures. But as the climate grew colder over long centuries, one lifeform after another bailed out, until the penguins were left in a land that, as far as they can see, is inhabited pretty much by other penguins, and edged by seas filled with delicious fish. Even their predators, such as the leopard seal, give them a pass during the dark, long, cold winter.
"This is a love story," Freeman's narration assures us, reminding me for some reason of Tina Turner singing "What's Love Got to Do With It?" I think it is more accurately described as the story of an evolutionary success. The penguins instinctively know, because they have been hard-wired by evolutionary trial and error, that it is necessary to march so far inland because in spring, the ice shelf will start to melt toward them, and they need to stand where the ice will remain thick enough to support them.
As a species, they learned this because the penguins who paused too soon on their treks had eggs that fell into the sea. Those who walked farther produced another generation, and eventually every penguin was descended from a long line of ancestors who were willing to walk the extra mile.
Why do penguins behave in this manner? Because it works for them, and their environment gives them little alternative. They are Darwinism embodied. But their life history is so strange that until the last century, it was not even guessed at. The first Antarctic explorers found penguins aplenty, but had little idea where they came from, where they went to, and indeed whether they were birds or mammals.
The answers to those questions were discovered by a man named Apsley Cherry-Garrard, in one of the most remarkable books ever written, The Worst Journey in the World (1922). He was not writing about the journey of the penguins, but about his own trek with two others through the bitter night to their mating grounds. Members of Scott's 1910-1912 expedition to the South Pole, they set out in the autumn to follow the march of the penguins, and walked through hell until he found them, watched them, returned with one of their eggs. Cherry-Garrard retired to England, where he lived until 1959; his friends felt the dreadful march, and the later experience of finding the frozen bodies of Scott and two others, contributed to his depression for the rest of his life.
For Jacquet and his crew, the experience was more bearable. They had transport, warmth, food and communication with the greater world. Still, it could not have been pleasant, sticking it out and making this documentary, when others were filming a month spent eating at McDonald's. The narration is a little fanciful for my taste, and some of the shots seem funny to us but not to the penguins. When they fall over, they do it with a remarkable lack of style. And for all the walking they do, they're ungainly waddlers. Yet they are perfect in their way, with sleek coats, grace in the water and heroic determination. It's poignant to watch the chicks in their youth, fed by their parents, playing with their chums, the sun climbing higher every day, little suspecting what they're in for.

The original Zeitgeist was actually not a “film”, but a performance piece, which consisted of a vaudevillian style multi-media event using recorded music, live instruments and video. The event was given over a 6-night period in New York City and then, without any interest to professionally release or produce the work, was “tossed” up on the Internet arbitrarily. The work was never designed as a film or even a documentary in a traditional sense - it was designed as a creative, provoking, emotionally driven expression, full of artistic extremity and heavily stylized gestures. However, once online, an unexpected flood of interest began to generate. Within 6 months over 50 Million views were recorded on Google Video counters. Suddenly “Zeitgeist” the event, became “Zeitgeist: The Movie”.
Zeitgeist: The Movie (2007) is a treatment on Mythology and Belief in society today, presenting uncommon perspectives of common cultural issues.
Chapter 1, “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, presents historical data relating to the astronomical/astrological origins of the Judeo-Christian theology (which can be extended to Islam as well), along with the understanding that these respective stories, beliefs & traditions are really an adaptation-extension of prior Pagan beliefs.
Chapter 2, “All the World’s a Stage”, presents a controversial view of the events of Sept. 11th 2001. It describes how the event has been transformed into a sacred, near religious act and to challenge the orthodox view, regardless of the quality of the contrary arguments, is considered blasphemy and rejected.
Chapter 3, “Don’t Mind the Men Behind The Curtain “, presents a shotgun tour through the subjects of Central Banking, War Pretexts, Banking Panics, the Military Industrial Complex, Media Culture and ultimately the mental neurosis and deadly addiction known as “Power.” The central theme is how society is often misled when it comes to certain pivotal historical events, what those events serve in function, along with how the overall social conditioning patterns we see today function to create values and perspectives which support and perpetuate the static, established order/power structure, as opposed to fluid social change and productive evolution for the betterment of the society as a whole.
Under any circumstances should you watch this movie if you want to stay in your pleasant state of hypnosis, which you allowed yourself to be implanted by the tyranny and totalitarianism of the psychopathic elites of the modern world.

A documentary record of Talking Heads in concert, using material from three shows in Hollywood, December '83. Apart from what artifice the Heads themselves allow on stage, Demme restricts himself to a cool, almost classic style, with the camera subservient to the action.
Building from David Byrne performing a solo acoustic 'Psycho Killer', to the full nine-piece leaping through 'Take Me to the Water', its distinction is more what it omits than what it includes. Tacky rock theatre razzle is stripped down to humorously 'minimal' conceits of staging, lighting and presentation. Apart from a few moments of incongruous boogieing, the allegedly over- intellectual Heads are revealed to be human, warm-hearted, and possessed of a sizeable humour. A quietly large achievement.
David Byrne walks on to a bare stage with a portable cassette tape player and an acoustic guitar. He introduces "Psycho Killer" by saying he wants to play a tape, but in reality a Roland TR-808 drum machine starts playing from the mixing board. The gunshot-like beats cause Byrne to stagger "like Jean-Paul Belmondo in the final minutes of 'Breathless,' a hero succumbing, surprised, to violence that he'd thought he was prepared for."
With each successive song, Byrne is joined by more members of the band: first by Tina Weymouth for "Heaven" (with Lynn Mabry providing harmony vocals from backstage), second by Chris Frantz for "Thank You for Sending Me an Angel", and third by Jerry Harrison for "Found a Job". Performance equipment is wheeled out and added to the set to accommodate the additional musicians: back-up singers Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt, keyboardist Bernie Worrell,
percussionist Steve Scales, and guitarist Alex Weir. The first song to feature the entire lineup is "Burning Down the House", although the original 1985 RCA/Columbia Home Video release (which featured three additional songs in two performances edited into the film) has the entire band (minus Worrell) performing "Cities" before this song. Byrne leaves the stage at one point to allow the Weymouth–Frantz-led side-band Tom Tom Club to perform their song "Genius of Love". The band also performs two songs from Byrne's soundtrack album The Catherine Wheel, "What a Day That Was" and (as a bonus song on the home video release) "Big Business".
The film includes Byrne's "big suit", an absurdly large business suit that he wears for the song "Girlfriend Is Better". The suit was partly inspired by Noh theatre styles, and became an icon not only of the film – as it appears on the movie poster, for instance – but of Byrne himself. Byrne said: "I was in Japan in between tours and I was checking out traditional Japanese theater – Kabuki, Noh, Bunraku – and I was wondering what to wear on our upcoming tour. A fashion designer friend (Jurgen Lehl) said in his typically droll manner, 'Well David, everything is bigger on stage.' He was referring to gestures and all that, but I applied the idea to a businessman's suit." Pauline Kael stated in her review: "When he comes on wearing a boxlike 'big suit' – his body lost inside this form that sticks out around him like the costumes in Noh plays, or like Beuys' large suit of felt that hangs off a wall – it's a perfect psychological fit." On the DVD he gives his reasoning behind the suit: "I wanted my head to appear smaller and the easiest way to do that was to make my body bigger, because music is very physical and often the body understands it before the head."

My Friend Rockefeller’Tells The Story Of The Infamous Imposter, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter.
There's no shortage of shocking stories about feigned identities - from Anna Delvey to John Meehan, con men and women are ubiquitous. But few stories involve a move from Germany, five identities, and the Rockefeller family name. The fascinating story of Christian Gerhartsreiter manages to include all three. Gerhartsreiter made his way across the US, ingratiating himself into wealthy communities until he settled in New York City. There, Gerhartsreiter married a Harvard grad and pretended to work in prestigious philanthropic positions, all the while hobnobbing with some of the richest and most prominent members of American high society.
Gerhartsreiter's life imploded when his wife decided to seek a divorce. Gerhartsreiter took their daughter, of whom he had lost custody, and prepared to sail abroad under a different identity. Police discovered the plan before he could escape and soon detained him. Authorities uncovered Gerhartsreiter's trail of lies, one of which implicated him in the slaying of a man and a missing woman.
The documentary My Friend Rockefeller tells Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter's real story. My Friend Rockefeller reviews suggest the film successfully analyzes why Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter used the name Clark Rockefeller, and describes what has happened since he was apprehended in 2008. As of 2019, he's serving time, possibly for the rest of his life. His story has inspired a movie called Who Is Clark Rockefeller?, as well as several books and podcast episodes. Gerhartsreiter will live in infamy, though likely not for the reasons he hoped.
Gerhartsreiter Used Five Different Identities Over 30 Years
After Gerhartsreiter took his daughter, police discovered that his friends knew him as a number of different identities. Some knew him as Chris Gerhart, a film student at the University of Wisconsin. He had also gone by Christopher C. Crowe when he worked as a TV producer in the late '80s. Others knew him as an alleged British royal, Christopher Chichester, who suddenly left Los Angeles in the 1980s following a couple's disappearance.
By the time Gerhartsreiter fled Boston with his daughter, his friends and his wife Sandra Boss knew him as Clark Rockefeller. The alleged Rockefeller worked and lived among some of the country's most wealthy.
Gerhartsreiter Successfully Convinced An Entire Community That He Inherited A Part Of The Rockefeller Fortune
The alleged Rockefeller convinced not one, but two communities of lawyers, doctors, artists, and writers that he was a descendant of the Rockefeller family. In New York, he took his prestigious friends to country clubs and showed off his "art collection," which authorities later determined was fake.
In Boston, Gerhartsreiter ingratiated himself with a community of wealthy people who often met at a Starbucks near his daughter's school. Gerhartsreiter became the director of the Algonquin Club and invited his elite friends, even if he did charge them for their visits. John Greene, who was adjacent to Gerhartsreiter's circle, said he easily convinced them he was a Rockefeller, claiming, "At a club like that - very Yankee, old-boys, blue blood - people get [excited] over the name."

David is the author of over 21 books and 10 DVDs and has lectured in over 25 countries, speaking live for up to 10 HOURS to huge audiences, filling stadiums like Wembley Arena.
In April 2020, Icke gave a two-and-a-half-hour interview to the British online channel London Real. The video is dubbed in English, Spanish and French, and subtitled in multiple other languages.
At the time, it was shared by several million internet users but for some reason the organisations controlling the mass media and all social media blocked this interview completely, and by all possible means, disinformation campaigns were launched to ridicule Icke's theories.
People have seen crop circles created by a tube of light in less than fifteen seconds, bending the plants without damage, altering the electromagnetic field and soil, and encoding new math theorems. Now that you know what humans can't do, discover who can.
“It is perfectly natural to ask if crop circles are hoaxes, but very difficult to explain why they cannot be hoaxes satisfactorily,” remarked NASA engineer Pat Delgado. And he was right, because people cannot steam plants at right angles without damage, alter the local gravitational field, change the mineral structure of the soil, encode unknown mathematical theorems, or apply permanent electromagnetic signatures when attempting to replicate crop circles.
Eighty people have witnessed crop circles manifesting in less than fifteen seconds. Many describe a descending tube of light that rotates and bends the plants without causing any damage. These are just some of the anomalies behind the world’s most important phenomenon. Leading expert and best-selling author Freddy Silva discusses these and many more topics in this fast-paced, live presentation from Contact in the Desert.

HOW THE LIE BEGAN In 1980, Dr. Robert Gallo, a retrovirologist with the National Cancer Institute, discovered the first human retrovirus (HTLV-I). A retrovirus is distinguished from an ordinary virus by virtue of the fact that its RNA is converted to DNA by an enzyme called reverse transcriptase. Its replication and survival is totally dependent on the viability of the host cell. If the host cell dies, the virus is finished. Dr. Gallo knew this basic fact; however, he would soon purposely ignore this fact in order to serve his own needs by claiming that the virus was very "mysterious".
Somehow it would mysteriously survive while mysteriously slaughtering T-cells by the millions (this has never been observed). He had contended in the past, but failed to prove, that the very same retrovirus (HTLV-I) caused a specific type of leukemia which was occuring in Japan. The power of position, that of being a top government official and scientist, has allowed the erroneous label of "leukemia virus" to remain intact even though it was rejected by the scientific community.
In 1981, it was proposed that an acquired immune deficiency was the basis for a new syndrome of diseases (AIDS) that appeared to be surfacing amongst promiscuous male homosexuals and intravenous drug users. Dr. David Durack, of Duke University, a recognized expert on infectious diseases and the immune system, though admitting the prevalence of drug use (particular "poppers" or amyl nitrites) and repeated multiple infections, ignored these well-known causes of immune deficiency and announced that this "truly new syndrome" must be due to "some new factor".
Continuously this group of scientists has resorted to theory, not fact, as to how the AIDS virus supposedly accomplishes its dirty deeds. The words, "it is thought", are constantly used in casual conversations or in the non-scientific articles and popular magazines and books. In the scientific journals or at lectures the theory is presented as established fact although there are no facts involved. It is portrayed as an established truth and therefore is accepted as such by most scientists, including physicians.
The so-called HIV virus is still referred to as a "new" virus in spite of the indisputable evidence to the contrary. Incorrectly, the virus has been characterized as "attacking" or "infiltrating" the immune system, when in reality this is impossible because it is not alive and does not invade. Retroviruses are engulfed by the cells and incorporated into the cell's life processes.
In this film Dr. David Martin gives an education in the history of the United States where we went wrong and what are the mechanisms of that deviation of the grand experiment.
In American R/Evolution, David tells the story of the financial and commercial history of the United States. He revisits the vision for America that was postulated by Thomas Jefferson, and explains where this vision was derailed. The film delivers a message that challenges existing paradigms and inspires viewers to engage their communities in a greater capacity.
Our financial history is a subject typically distorted beyond comprehension. But through the film, Dr. David Martin narrates it in a way that is approachable, entertaining, and utterly mind-blowing for people of all walks of life.
“We believed in a world where there was always something beyond. We believed in a world where somehow our fear of death needed to change how we live. We believed in a world where we had to look to ourselves rather than look to our neighbours and to our network to support us. We believed in a world where we wanted to surrogate our responsibility because even though we got rid of a monarch, we got rid of a pope… We still believed that someone somewhere else was responsible for our lives.“
